Residential Fire Sprinklers

A life safety choice

If you have decided to Install Residential fire sprinklers in your new home or existing home, you have made a great choice. These Invaluable life safety systems are designed to give occupants time to escape from a fire and statistics compiled by the NFCC (National Fire Chiefs Council) show that Residential Sprinkler systems are incredibly efficient and effective in saving lives and property.

Renewed interest in and support for sprinkler systems in the UK has resulted in sprinkler systems being more widely installed in private homes, often being asked for by building control. In 2011,

Wales became the first country in the world where sprinklers are compulsory in all new homes. The law applies to newly built houses and blocks of flats, as well as care homes and university halls of residence. In Scotland, all new schools are sprinklered, as are new care homes, sheltered housing and high-rise flats.

There are several reasons why a well Installed Sprinkler system makes sense:

  1. Residential Sprinklers – protect occupant’s lives, firefighters, and property.
  2. Save Money – Losses from property protected by Sprinklers are one sixth of those in unprotected buildings.
  3. Sprinklers – Control or extinguish fires in 99% of cases.
  4. Sprinklers – reduce costs and disruption to your property following a fire.
  5. Insurance Discounts – The reduced potential for loss may factor into Insurance premiums.
  6. Sprinklers – use much less water to extinguish a fire than brigade hoses, and so lead to much less water damage.
  7. Environmental protection – Sprinklers protect the environment from damaging emissions of smoke or large amounts of contaminated water.
  8. Peace of mind – As Sprinklers greatly mitigate the risk of fire, you can rest easier knowing you have done the best you can to protect your family and loved ones, as well as your property.

How does a Residential Sprinkler System work?

Each sprinkler head contains a valve that opens to release water when a heat-sensitive element reaches a pre-determined temperature. Usually this will be at least 68°C, however, sprinkler heads that operate between temperatures of 57–230°C are also available.

Once a Sprinkler head has been activated it delivers water directly onto the source of the heat or fire and douses the flames, allowing time for anybody in the home or building to evacuate. It is a myth that if one head activates, they all do, only the head/s above the heat source will activate, thus eliminating any costly additional water damage. This is what makes a Sprinkler system a very effective means of protecting your loved ones and your property.

Concealed Fire Sprinkler Heads are discreet. A question or concern we often hear is ” but aren’t the heads an eyesore?”. That’s understandable as we’ve all seen the heads you see poking down from the ceilings in stores and public buildings. Safeguard concealed heads are designed to be unobtrusive, discreet and modern in design and generally when installed on a white ceiling they become part of the decor. The cover caps are available in a range of finishes and can be a bespoke colour if required.
